Burns Park, in North Little Rock, one of the nation’s largest municipal parks, features 1,575 acres nestled along the Arkansas River. The heavily-wooded area is a natural haven for birdwatchers, picnickers, hikers and joggers and sports a 36-hole championship golf course, a tennis complex offering 12 tennis courts, handball and racquetball courts, disc and miniature golf, baseball, softball, soccer, an amusement park and more.
Comprising 3,463 linear feet of bridge elevated 65 feet above the navigation channel, and 653 feet of walled embankments, the Big Dam Bridge that opened in 2006 is a pedestrian and bicyclists’ dream. It unites about 17 miles of scenic riverside trails in the cities of Little Rock and North Little Rock, and will, in the future, connect with 7,000 acres of various city, county, state and federal park land.
Along with the Arkansas River, the region is also surrounded by man-made lakes brimming with opportunities for water sports—sailing, skiing, canoeing, fishing and boating.
